Lana and I welcome you to Broadwater for our 4th on property sale to be held on Friday 5th September.
Since our last sale we have been busy making the most of favourable weather. At home at Broadwater, we have achieved multiple cuts of our Summer forage crop with our Silage and hay reserves well stocked. Our river country is flush with Oats following March planting and regular follow-up rain. Planted later in June our Barley is not far behind. We have never seen it wetter at Wylie Springs, our NSW property where we run our breeders. Water is oozing from the granite rises. Whilst it has made for some hard day’s work after bogging motorbikes and working in sodden yards it is a problem worth having. It does make us appreciate our covered yards at home.
Following our January 2025 AI program our 200 Herd Book Registered cows will calve out in November with our tenth drop of registered Angus calves. More than 50% of these females now representing our own retained heifers. We are happy with the conformation and style of these replacements which are the sisters of the bulls offered in this and recent sales.
2025 SALE DETAILS: For the first time in 2025 we will be offering 10 unjoined heifers representing the second and third generations of our own breeding selections. Rising two years old, Heifers will be presented in forward store condition at minimum 380Kg liveweight. Ready to join or AI to the sire of your choice.
We are also proud to present for sale what we believe are some very special sire options. Our target is to produce bulls with the ability to breed progeny with low to moderate birthweight, strong growth and favourable carcass characteristics. Suitable for finishing on grass or grain we strongly believe that we can add real value to beef breeding operations. This year amongst others we are excited to market the product of our recent Embryo Transfer Programs. Bred from what we consider to be some of our best females, we will list sons of TEXAS ICEMAN, GAR GREATER GOOD, POSS WINCHESTOR and POSS DEADWOOD. Tailored joining’s through both ET and AI were designed to enhance the production traits of our herd and this is evident in the Breed plan analysis and genotypes evident in our 2025 sales listing.
On offer this year will be 50 bulls consisting of 30 x rising 2-year-old bulls and 20 x 17–18-month-old yearlings. These are soft bulls with natural muscling, moderate frames and carrying the most Progressive Genetics.
Reviewing the 2025 Catalogue; 29 Lots with favourable Birthweights are considered “Heifer Safe”. A total of 28 bulls featuring also earning our mark for “High Growth”. The high growth status is earned when 2 of the 3 growth EBV’s are within the 20-percentile band of the registered Angus herd within Australia. A further 12 bulls are considered “Carcass Value Improvers” with each maintaining a minimum of 3 Carcass EBV’s again falling within upper 20%. Trifecta bulls featuring throughout the catalogue have earnt all 3 marks, validated by Genomic testing.
